For this one last week, I am running a thing called AlphaBeasts, where we draw a fictional creature every week, starting with creatures that end with A and ending with creatures that end with Z! All are welcome to participate. Here’s the website, and here are the rules!

For the last letter of the alphabet, I asked for volunteers from the ranks of AlphaBeasts participants who wanted to be zombies, and had folks send me photos. I got enough participants that I doubled the size I normally work in. Who knows how I’ll handle that if I print a mini of all my beasts! Thanks to everyone who volunteered: (from left to right) Leah Palmer Price, Isaac Cates, Dermot Jones, Kelly Williams, Ted Hobgood, Gerri Ryan, and Sam Wolk!

While I’m thanking folks, thanks to everyone who participated in AlphaBeasts! The level of involvement was huge, and in a few weeks, we’ll be launching our next round, which will be AlphaBooks – we’re going to draw characters from books!

This dream got dreamed last night. I had about half an hour to draw today, and I drew this!

Warm-up sketch suggested by @rdickerson: “Giant Bender vs. Giant Zoidberg.” Awesome idea, since I love Futurama, and while I’m sure I’ve probably doodled these guys in a sketchbook at some point, maybe I haven’t? I actually don’t know! Anyway. The color made this take a little longer than the 15 minutes I intended, but it was necessary to make the shapes pop from each other since my scribble is so messy.

Here’s another supernatural Japanese entity. According to wikipedia:

Yuki-onna appears on snowy nights as a tall, beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips. Her inhumanly pale or even transparent skin makes her blend into the snowy landscape… She sometimes wears a white kimono, but other legends describe her as nude, with only her face and hair standing out against the snow…

This lady enjoys breathing her icy breath on people and leaving them frozen, and I intended to include a victim in the piece, but I liked the layout without a victim, so I left it!

If you like birds and Missy Elliot, then this comic is for you!

5.5 Pages done. 2.5 pages to go for this 8-pager I’m working on. Whew.

Thanks to @wordnerdy for suggesting I draw “greyhounds” for this 15-minute sketch that turned into a 25-minute sketch!

We all know these guys. The perspective is way wonky, but I think the design is pretty solid, so heck with it.

Thanks to @maxhuffman for the suggestion to draw a HAIRDO. I actually have no idea if this took 15 minutes or not, as I got a a phone call in the middle and didn’t check the clock when I stopped to take the call.

Whew. I almost bit off more than I could chew, but I just barely finished roughing this one in at 15 minutes. Thanks to @cartoonfuntime and @krishva for suggesting “a beautiful butt” and “a nice friendly skeleton riding a bicycle,” respectively.
